The invaders: alien beings from a dying planet.
Their destination: the Earth.
Their purpose: to make it their world.
It began with a closed, deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy...
Now, David Vincent knows that the invaders are here. That they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun…
'The Invaders' follows the exploits of David Vincent, an everyday working guy whose life is turned upside-down following his sighting of an unidentified flying object one night. Investigating the spacecraft, Vincent soon uncovers a plot by aliens to take over the Earth for themselves; his attempts to thwart the invaders' plans soon become an obsession, but Vincent finds his quest hampered by the fact that when the aliens are killed their bodies burn up and turn to ashes, leaving no trace behind; not only that, but the creatures are able to look just like us, causing Vincent to suspect everyone - just who can be trusted to aid him in his mission?
The first season sees Vincent travelling across the United States, following up possible leads on the alien threat and coming into conflict with not only the alien invaders but also a disbelieving public that refuses to believe his claims of invasion. Branded a crank by the very people he is trying to warn, Vincent becomes even more determined to find proof of the exraterrestrial menace. Midway during the second season, Vincent encounters an organised group of fellow believers, who recruit him to their cause.
The series began in 1967, but sadly ended after just two seasons of 43 episodes, and the storyline was never concluded. However, the show was later resurrected in 1995 as a two-part mini-series, but this was pretty dire, and failed to lead into a new series. A shame really, as I for one would like to see more of the invaders and their plans for conquest - and hope that Vincent is still out there trying to put a stop to them...
